Go Falcons circa 1997

Sarah (Corbett) Williams posted this photo to Facebook on Tuesday but somehow I missed it. Kari was nice enough to ask if I'd seen number 11 on the second row :) Oh yeah, that is my sister-in-law!! And Kari is on the floor laying to the left of the volleyball. Man, this is a real gem.

Not bad news, but not the best

I finished my third round of Clomid last week and went in for a Follicle Ultrasound Scan (where they look at my ovaries to see if I have any mature follicles that might have an egg inside) this morning. Basically there are multiple follicles again, which means no trigger shot. That's not horrible b/c last month I ovulated on my own, so that's really okay. Here's where it gets interesting. On my right ovary there is one pretty large follicle, 31x18mm. On my left side I have multiple smaller cysts and one follicle that is at a "mature" size of 20x24mm. 20x24mm is actually the perfect size but with all of the other cysts around it she doesn't think it will produce an egg. She said if the follicle on my right ovary, even though it is a little misshapen, was the only one I had (and none on the left)  then she would think it would have a mature egg but since so much is going on on my left side she's not sure. She really has no way of knowing. She said to continue with timed intercourse this month and I will go back in nine days to test to see if I ovulated.

Basically she said it could happen, so to definitely try but that I need to go to the Reproductive Endocrinologist in KC. She said the Clomid is obviously activating my ovaries to produce, but they aren't producing what they should or how they should. She said in KC they will be able to give me different medicines and tailor them more to my specific situation. And really figure out what that "situation" is. So that's where we are. Fingers crossed that maybe one of those two follicles is hiding a healthy egg inside :)

I did tell her that I sent my paperwork to RRC in KC last week and she said once they process the paperwork and call, you get in pretty quickly. She said one to two weeks usually. Hopefully I will hear from them sometime soon, but I don't think I would set my appointment until around February 18 b/c then I would know for sure if I was or wasn't pregnant from this round.

Prayers and Praying

Here's the thing, I think I had it all wrong. This sounds stupid now, but part of me kind of felt like God has a plan for all of this so I hate to disrespect him and ask for things he may or may not be planning to give me already. I felt this way about asking for a baby. When I'd pray I'd ask for things like, "If I get pregnant please let me have a healthy child." "Please keep me optimistic." "Please don't let me get pregnant until I can carry to full-term." But I never prayed to get pregnant, to have a baby. It wasn't until a Facebook friend of mine announced she was pregnant last week and she posted this bible verse did it click.

"For this child I prayed and the Lord answered my prayer." 1 Samuel 1:27

It hit me then that maybe even though He has a plan maybe I should still ask. So I made a vow to myself to pray everyday for my unborn, not yet conceived child. To pray that I will get pregnant and have a baby. That our baby will be healthy. That I will have a family of my own beyond Tim and I (and our doggies).  I will pray for those things not out of doubt but so He knows I want it, that I strive for it, and that it is worth asking for.

Chicken Enchilada Skillet

We are bringing back our "New Meal of the Week" recipes! It might not happen every week, but some weeks (like this week) we are going to try two!

  • PAM® Original No-Stick Cooking Spray
  • 12 corn tortillas, torn into bite-size pieces
  • 3 cups shredded cooked chicken (3 cups = about 12 oz)
  • 1 can (10 oz each) Ro*Tel® Original Diced Tomatoes & Green Chilies, undrained
  • 1 can (10 oz each) red enchilada sauce
  • 1 can (8 oz each) Hunt's® Tomato Sauce
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar and Monterey Jack blend cheese, divided

  1. Spray large nonstick skillet with cooking spray. Add tortilla pieces and chicken; mix well. Cook over medium-high heat 5 minutes or until hot, stirring frequently.
Pour undrained tomatoes and enchilada and tomato sauces over chicken mixture in skillet. Mix well. Sprinkle 1/2 cup cheese over chicken mixture. Cover skillet; cook 5 minutes or until hot, stirring occasionally.

Sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup cheese. Serve immediately.

1. We used flour tortillas instead of corn b/c we don't like corn tortillas
2. We also added in onion and pinto beans. Tim liked it that way, I think I'd prefer it without.

Optimism, are you back?

Until this past week my optimism has been hiding. I honestly pride myself on being optimistic but over the past month I've been really down. I was really hoping my hiatus from posting would mean I could wait even longer and then reveal that we are pregnant, but no. That just isn't happening yet. I am okay with what is coming next.

Before I go forward let me look back and fill you in on the past month. I took my second (of 3) round of Clomid the beginning of January. I went in on CD12 (the twelfth day after I started my period and three days after finishing Clomid) for another round of Follicle Ultrasound Scans. This scan revealed three possible mature follicles. She said she really only thought that one of them actually had an egg in it b/c the other two were pretty abnormally shaped, but they could potentially. So with the possibility of three my doctor wasn't able to give me the trigger shot (which would force me to ovulate). I was a little bummed just because in my head I thought that is what would happen.

This caused me to ask the question about what is really going on with my body? I ask her 1. I am either not producing eggs on my own or 2. I am not ovulating on my own. She said or 3. I could be producing eggs and ovulating but my eggs are "bad." The third scenario my doctor has no way testing for.

Thinking of that it made me interested and excited to see if I would ovulate on my own. To test if I ovulated they do a blood test to test my progesterone on my 21 or 22 cycle days. After your period your progesterone is very low. Mine is usually at a 0.089. It stays low until you ovulate and then it jumps up to above a 10. This cycle I was at a 17 which is great! That shows that I ovulated on my own. If you become pregnant your progesterone will stay above a 10 and if you are not it will drop back down when you start your period. Even though I ovulated I tried not to get my hopes up b/c I know I ovulated the last month b/c I had the trigger shot which forced ovulation and I didn't get pregnant.

It's just hard. In December I had symptoms leading up to starting my period I don't usually have. The only time I'd had them actually was when I was pregnant. I ask my doctor if the Clomid could cause that and she said no. I ask if I could have potentially been pregnant and lost the baby and she said no. I thought maybe it was a fluke. This month was no different. I had sore boobs again and I was extremely exhausted the days leading up to starting my period, but then I started. I was really emotional. Even though you try so hard not to get your hopes up or read into the symptoms, you do. It's hard not to.

Even reading this it puts me back where I was, in a pretty bad state of mind. For the first time in this journey I had the thought I might not EVER have a child of my own. It was just weighing really heavy on me. I really didn't see my optimism coming back to me anytime soon. But lately I've been feeling positive again. Maybe it's b/c we are close to getting some answers. How you ask?

Here's what's next.
1. Clomid Round Three
2. HSG Test
3. Follicle Ultrasound Scans (with possible trigger shot)
4. Head to Kansas City

At my last meeting with my doctor told me I needed to start looking into what we do next.
She will only let me use Clomid three times and I took it this past week. She strongly feels like if the Clomid was going to work it would work within three months. After that we really need to look into things and figure out what the problem is instead of just throwing Clomid at it and hoping that it works. I've sent my paperwork to the Reproductive Research Center in Overland Park Kansas. I am hoping to get an appointment with Dr. Ryan Riggs a Reproductive Endocrinologist within the next month. Dealing with infertility is what he does all day every day. He will assess everything we've gone through and figure out what the actual problem is. Obviously I hope he says nothing and we just need to give it some time, which is a possibility. But I just can't go on not knowing and waste more time. When I called last week they told me if I do get pregnant before then then I can cancel with no problems, so why not get on the books.

My doctor said the first thing the RRC would do would be a HSG Test so we went ahead and did it here in town. I honestly think she should have done t before now, but I thought maybe I didn't need it since I'd gotten pregnant before. A hysterosalpingogram (HSG) is an X-ray test that looks at the inside of the uterus and fallopian tubes and the area around them. Basically they put dye through my cervix and watched on an x-ray machine the dye fill my uterus. The first thing they looked at was to make sure there were no leaks. Then they had me tilt to one side and then the other to make sure the dye flowed through my fallopian tubes up to my ovaries. Everything looked great. Free flowing and no blockages. This is great news, but I was a little disappointed. Doesn't that sound crazy? I was just thinking if there had been an issue then at least I would know what the problem is. You know?! I told my doctor and she said she understood. She also said that if I am going to have a problem this is not the one I want to have. So after hearing that I was glad everything was a-okay.

That was Thursday. This Wednesday I go in for the third round of Follicle Ultrasound Scans. Then we wait. Hopefully in the mean time I will get an appointment in Kansas City.

So, that's where we are. I'm feeling more positive now, so I just pray I can keep that up and not get too down if I do have to take the next step.

Tim's Birthday Dinner Part Duex

We hadn't gotten to celebrate with John, Kari and Sawyer yet, so last night we met them at Nakato. I got a few pics of Sawyer watching the chef, pretty funny! And he loved Tim's fried rice and he thanked him by grinning and showing him tongue. PS Kari, Tim devoured the piece of German chocolate cake you brought him!

Tim and his sis

Circa 1985! This is a little thing we call Throwback Thursday :) This week we are going WAY BACK. Aren't they SO stinking cute?!? I love their little smiles.

I know I've posted about my brother and Ashley getting engaged but since then Ashley asked me to be a bridesmaid!! Chris asked Tim to be a groomsman too. We are so honored to stand up with them as they exchange vows in Vegas this March. This past weekend Ashley and I went bridesmaid dress shopping and found the one! It is going to be light pink, not black and will look so beautiful in the chapel.

Birthday Boy

Today marks Tim's 31st birthday! Terri said around 4:35 in the morning. The family (sans Chris, Ashley and Aidan b/c Aidan was sick) met at Pizza House for dinner. My dad was living on the edge and snuck Tim a birthday beer in since it is a non-alcoholic joint. We enjoyed our yummy pizza and laughed and talked then Tim opened his gifts. He got new batteries for his craftsman tools, a new book and his favorite mints from his rents. Money from his Nanny and a new Under Armor fleece from my rents. I usually suck at Tim's birthday but this year I hit it out of the park. The gift started with three new CDs: Kenny Chesney, Eric Church and Eli Young Band. Do you know what he got yet? My mom figured it out. She said "hey they are all... Wait, I know what he's getting!" Concert tickets to see all of those bands in KC June 15! Our friends Thomas and Josey bought tickets too, so the four of us have a little overnight getaway planned. After prezzies we went to Andy's for a little chilly dessert, and I'm not talking about the custard. On our way home we stopped by Chris and Ashley's bc Chris thought Tim could use his gift tonight. And guess what, he is! We are watching our first episode of Duck Dynasty right now :) He also got a little fun money. It was a little more tame than last year but still a perfect little celebration.

Oh, and we are in section 119 on the map for the concert!
Okay, I didn't realize how tiny that little map is. Here is one where you can actually see where 119 is :)

New Years Eve

New Years Eve started out a bit scary for our family. It had been snowing all morning Tim was with Thomas heading out to his grandparents house to check trail cameras. They both swear they weren't going too fast but they started to slide on a patch of ice. They were headed for a bridge and eventually went off of the road and rolled the truck on its side. Luckily there was a concrete wall holding the bridge up that stopped them from rolling completely over. Both the boys weren't hurt, thank the Lord!

The boys made the Springfield News Leader the next day

I was going to go in to work for a few hours and then after that I decided I would just stay in with Tim and enjoy the day. That night we met John and Kari at Galloway Station. It was $10 with all you could eat appetizers, awesome party favors and a really fun band. We ended up having an awesome time! Awesome enough that we all got rides home from our parents :) Kari's mom picked them up and my dad picked us up at the end of the night. Love you guys! Kari's phone was dead so we had mine out all night and I was a little picture happy. Enjoy :)

Home To-Do List 2013

We wrote this blog at the beginning in 2012 too. Here's a recap!
1. Stain the fence
2. Stain the deck DONE!
3. New carpet in the whole house
4. Re-do the office (new desk, new filing cabinet, book shelf, rug maybe, curtains, lounge chair) DONE! (sort of, we didn't get a bookshelf yet, curtains and a rug we decided against)
5. Have a garage sale. This past summer we thought we would have a garage sale too. We packed a ton of things into the attic, so we are pretty ready to go for a sale we just need to set a date. DONE!
6. Potentially dog proof the backyard...
7. Deep clean the blinds at least once
8. Overseed and fertilize the front and back yard DONE!
9. Landscape around the pool and deck DONE!
10. Landscape the front yard. I'd love to add some more color! Maybe take out a bush or two and extend the mulch area around the sidewalk. Part of the way but staying on the list for next year
11. Start a garden!

Here we go with 2013's list:
1. Power-wash and Thompson water seal the fence
2. Deep clean the blinds at least once
3. Landscape the front yard. I'd still love to add some more color! We put a rose bush in last year, but I would like to pull out the two cedars on the outside edges of the house and replace them with something new, with you guessed it, color!
5. Landscape beside our fence in the backyard and plant something to block the neighbors.
6. Purchase or build a bookshelf for the office.
