Weekend Trip to KC

This past weekend we hit the road with the Brooker's and spent Saturday and Sunday hanging out in Kansas City. We stayed with Brooke and Dave Jenkins, Tim and Adam graduated with Dave from good 'ole GHS. Once we arrived we picked Dave up and headed down to the Country Club Plaaaaza. Apparently I say that word really funny and drag it out in conversation so it became a bit of a running joke all weekend. Anyway, we went to the Plaaaza (tehe) and had lunch at this amazing, locally-owned Gastro pub called Gram&Dun. The weather was in the 70's so the restaurant had all of the big garage door windows open and even though we sat in the restaurant we were enjoying the weather. We got a little nervous when we checked out the food menu b/c it seemed a little froufrou and we were afraid the portions would be tiny, but man were we wrong. The boys all had the burger and they all proclaimed it to be one of the best they had had. It had chicken friend bacon on it! Amanda and I both ordered off of the brunch menu. I went out on a limb (I'm being so adventurous in eating aren't I?!) and had the Carne Asada Frites flank steak, queso fresco, fried eggs, salsa verde. It. Was. The. Best. I want it again, right now.
Doesn't Dave's hair look a bit like Jimmy Neutron?!?!

After lunch Amanda and I did a bit of shopping and then we all headed over to the Boulevard Brewery for a 4p tour. Brooke had to go to a funeral so Dave's buddy Joel attended in her place. The tour was about an hour and then we had about an hour in the tasting room. I have a new found love for the Boulevard Wheat, Tim really liked the Bully Porter. For dinner we ate at SPIN! Pizza and enjoyed the weather again while sitting on the patio. None of us were in the mood to "go out" so we ran by M&S Grill and got two Chocolate Bags and headed back home. Amanda thought I was crazy to only get two desserts for all size of us so she insisted on getting a few other items. Once we started to dig in she soon realized that they are huge and there is enough to go around. A "brown paper bag" made out of chocolate? Yes please!

Sunday we got up fairly early, which was easy since we were all in bed by 11p :) and went to breakfast at Urban Table, one of three restaurants owned by the Gram&Dun peeps. Again, the atmosphere was to-die for. I would live there if I could. Seriously. I had the Daybreaker (egg white omelette with roasted turkey breast, spinach, tomato avocado salsa) and Tim had La Breakfast (scramble eggs, bacon, fontina, truffled mayo toasted, french country bread). Both of us were happy with our picks! We headed to The Legends outlet mall for a quick breeze through the shops and then headed back home. Great little impromptu weekend getaway before Tim starts school.

Whitaker Publishing Office Olympics III

Let the games begin!

Each Olympic season our office rallies together and puts on Office Olympics. There are prizes for creativity/most spirited/best dressed group, winners in all individual events and one team champ from the team competition.

Official Teams:

Dylan – team captain, not competing

Individual Events:
Pencil Javelin With a sharpened pencil take a nice long run-up and hurl it across the office. Automatic gold medal if it lands in the bin.
Target Shooting Contestants throw Sharpies at paper target from a fixed distance. Must leave a mark (on target, not contestant) to score. I WON THIS EVENT!!!
Coffee Mug Marathon Athletes carrying coffee cups filled to the brim must circle the floor at least six times. Winners are judged by a combination of fastest time and least amount spilled.

Team Event – relay style:
Leg one: Chair race – using feet only, no hands.
Leg two: Shot Put – throw a paper wad into a waste basket, no moving on until you've made it.
Leg three: Magazine Balance Beam Athletes prance across a straight line made with tape on the ground while keeping a certain amount of magazines balanced on their head.
Leg four: Hurdles Competitors race down a hallway (aka area in front of the mail boxes), leaping over reams of paper (low difficulty) and boxes (medium difficulty), or avoiding office chairs (high difficulty/rather stupid). Oh yes, all with boxes on your feet.
Very fun day, during work hours, might I add.

Cabin Porch=Dominated!

Tim and Ron have been motivated fools to get the porch at the cabin finished and now not only is the porch done, but it has a roof too. I haven't seen it yet but I can only imagine it makes the whole cabin seem larger. The porch is more than half of the size of the cabin itself!

Lake day!

Just a fun Saturday at Pom De Terre with Tim's rents full of beer-filled bobber coolers, lunch on the boat and a lot of sunshine.

First time in the water for the big bobberganoush as we called it.

Tell me you like my hat Shannon.

Miss Trina's Twenty Three-ah

Well, maybe flip those two numbers :) It was a small little celebration with Kari, Trina and I at Big Whiskey's on Battlefield. Some of you may know that Trina is a bit of a fanatic for Justin Bieber. The Biebs. So Kari and I treated her to a Bieber-themed birthday, consisting of his new CD, his Someday Puerfume (which I own and love actually), the Never Say Never Bieber movie on DVD and some "Minor" wine!

We then were trying to get a cute picture of the three of us and that was just NOT WORKING. The outtakes are so entertaining though I have to share.

The one below is by far the best of them all. We call this our awkward family photo. So awkward. I look like a ten year old boy. I was crying when I looked at these pics for the first time. Hope it brightens your day :)

While I'm at Work

Tim gets to eat Gailey's with John and Sawyer. Grrr.

And the routine returns

As summer is winding down our fall routine begins again. Having a normal schedule. Getting to the gym on a regular basis. Bringing back our "New Meal of the Week" quest. Settling back into Tim not being my house husband and me having to be motivated to work around the house when I get home from work.

It's a good transition. One that I welcome each fall season. To get us prepared last night Tim and I were on a mission to find some new workout kicks and we were both successful! So this morning (yes, before work) we hit the gym in our new duds. Crazy the kind of motivation that gives you. My three new workout outfits helped too :)

Another transition is happening as well. I don't know if it was a coincidence or not, maybe it was a reward for our mental readiness to move on to the next step, but I also had a visit from Aunt Flow this morning. I know, TMI, but that means we have surpassed our two months of "waiting" until we could start trying for another baby.

So today starts a new journey for us in more ways than one.
Nice way to end a workout
