Here is a little excerpt from their website about what the Doula Foundation is and where the funds go:
Many moms in the Ozarks don't have the emotional or financial support they need to have a happy, healthy pregnancy. Two-thirds are single and half are teenagers grappling with the idea of becoming mothers. By providing these women with support and education throughout their pregnancies, births, and postpartum period, the Doula Foundation is able to improve birth outcomes and reduce the likelihood of child abuse and neglect.
Funds raised are used to support our mission of providing education, support and guidance to young families in need. We offer free prenatal and baby yoga classes, childbirth education, and birth and postpartum doula support.
By "mothering the mother" we teach her to nurture and protect her child.
Needless to say we were all happy to support such a great cause with a fun girls night out. There was a great silent auction where a lot of us walked home with prizes. Megan Weaver got an awesome new chair, Amanda got 52 free Andy's concerts, Ashley got a bunch of pizzas and I got some new dog bowls! I think that is it, but I could be forgetting someone's sweet prize.
