Thanksgiving 2011

We split our Thanksgiving (and Christmas for that matter) holiday half and half between Tim's family and my family. Our plan was to have lunch at my parents and then head north to Kristin and Casey's house. Casey was on call so there was no leaving town for the three of them. Things didn't go as planned b/c a little thing call the flu hit the Robert's house hard. Kristin and Casey were both down for the count. So we had lunch at my parents as planned and then enjoyed relaxing at home that evening. Sadly I didn't take a single picture at my parents house :(

By Friday everyone felt back to normal so Tim and I headed to Fayette. We got there around 1 or 2, enough time to for Tim and Casey to get into the woods. Kristin, Rylan and I just ran some errands, hung out and prepared for the first Thanksgiving dinner we were in charge of. Terri, Ron and Nanny were coming up on Saturday for lunch. That left the turkey, aka the cavernous beast, cooking up to Kristin and I. It was entertaining, for sure! We survived and the turkey was dang good if you ask me!
Surprise treat!

Kind of sleepy, but check out the belly!

There's are things in there, we know it!

Let me take a look

The wings REALLY freaked me out, but I decided to give it a little high-five

Rylan helping Aunt Megan peel the potatoes

Taking a break for a little reading

What?! It might be little, but it worked for a baster

Nanny and Rylan

Done and done and yum

Belly shot! I think she was 13 weeks here.

Rylan and Aunt Meggie had a pretty fun little game we were playing. The video is kind of long, but her laugh is just irresistible.

Some of my holiday card designs

Some of you that follow my blog probably recognize that sweet little face above. Yes, this Christmas card I helped create for my boss, Logan. It has been an emotional road to get to the point where she was ready to share this news with her world. It's scary and sad and exciting all at the same time. This wasn't something they had planned, but it is something they are getting more and more excited about every day. If you could add their family to your prayer list I know they could use all of the support they can get. Support and hope for a healthy baby boy. Right now she is about 21-22 weeks. She is visiting the doctor often and taking all precautions they can. Her doctor honestly thinks she just got really unlucky in her last pregnancy and since she had a healthy pregnancy with Lucy that there is no reason that this one can't be perfect too. Her due date is May 12, but they will take the baby early, most likely the beginning of April. The reason for this is because how they had to preform the c-section with Stella, Logan can't labor at all. It would be very dangerous for her and the baby. So they will need prayers then too b/c this does means another stay in the NICU. It will be hard and overwhelming for them I know, but let's put it in God's hands that she will stay pregnant long enough that the stay is minimal and the issues with the baby are minor.

Now, go hug someone! It's New Year's Eve :)

Lemonade Party Drink

This is the easiest (and most yummy) alcoholic punch to make. We got this recipe while at Grand Lake with Susan and Dustin Combs on Memorial Day years and years ago. We were told you could only have 2 red solo cups of the punch–we soon learned why. Is SO strong. Definitely makes for a fun party!

Photo taken at Josey's house :)
2 cans frozen limeade
2 cans frozen lemonade
1 2-liter of sprite (I don't really like Sprite, so I sometimes just use half of the 2-liter)
1 1.75 of gin (Yes, the big handle) You can actually use vodka too, if you'd prefer. Tastes pretty similar.

Dump it all in, garnish with lemons and limes. Serve over ice.

A Little Bowling Fun

I can't remember the last time we went bowling, but I have a secret love for it. I will tell on myself here. I used to be in a legit bowling league when I was little. I had my own 8-lb sparkly purple ball and everything. I haven't retained much of my skill, but I did win the first game. 140! Then somehow I came in last the second game. The best part of the game were the boys' sweet celebration skills; I was lucky enough to capture a few on video :) We haven't been back, but thought we might have to b/c Kari's little guy let her sleep ALL night after bowling! That hadn't happened in a while.

{New Meal of the Week} Chunky Slow Cooker Chili

This might be one of my favorite new meals so far. I again didn't read the directions very well and we were supposed to brown the meat before putting it in the crock-pot. Well I didn't realized that until after I dumped it all in. Refer to my last crock-pot meal about thoroughly reading directions... I need to take my own advice. But really?! What's the point of a crock pot meal if we have to brown the meat first. So we just left it. By the time we got home it was cooked and ready to go! So this time it worked out to ignore obvious directions. I normally drench my chili in sour cream, ketchup and chili cheese Frito's–this recipe didn't need any of those. I put the Frito's on my first bowl, but I ultimately didn't need them. I just ate them as a side from then on.
2-lbs premium stew meat
Lot's of onion flake
1 can of Rotel
1 (8 ounce) can of tomato sauce
2 (15 ounce) cans of pinto beans with liquid
1 package of Chili seasoning
2 teaspoons ground cumin
1 teaspoon oregano

Dump it all in the crock-pot and cook on low all day.

I ended up making this for a work potluck last week and it was a hit! Super easy and the meat is so tender when it cooks in the juices all day.

Lot's to catch up on

Well it's been a while since I've written a blog. Sorry about that! This fall was crazy. Between 417 work, my steady freelance work, helping organize the Junior League of Springfield's Pitter Pat 5k/10k, hunting season for Tim. It was just busy. So I kind of took a break in December. Enjoyed coming home from work and cooking dinner with Tim. Relaxing on the couch. Shopping and wrapping lot's of Christmas gifts. So, I am back. I feel like a lot of fun things have happened, so I will fill you in via a few blog posts to come. I am so odd. I feel like the blog has to be in ORDER. Chronological order. I know none of you probably care, but it is so daunting to me to think I have a blog that needs to be written before I can write another one. Then I just go into this spiral of not putting anything up. I'm going to try to work on that.
Here's a few things we've been up to:
1. We went bowling with John and Kari and their little baby to be finally let Kari sleep ALL NIGHT! Yippee.
2. Thanksgiving happening and Kristin and I prepared a cavernous beast all by ourselves.
3. We went shopping for an adopted Christmas family.
4. Went to a McPhail Cowboy Christmas.
5. Decided to revamp our office. This started out by deciding we wanted new carpet. Doesn't that always happen?
6. Made some yummy pizza rolls for dinner.
7. Designed some adorable shower invites for the Hamra baby shower and a few Christmas cards for friends.
8. The boys got the roof on the cabin finished up and started on insulation and got a new stove.
9. Went to Kansas City for our annual girls' shopping trip with my mom, Terri and Kristin. That Chocolate Bag from McCormick and Smicks is still the bomb.
10. Found out the sex of our future niece :) It's a 90% chance anyway. We find out for sure in January.
11. Went to a friends' wedding, which was beautifully decorated.
12. Found our next pet.
13. Had dinner with Thomas, Josey and Kingston. He's getting so big!
14. Made a fun Christmas gift for Tim and I.
15. Went to Silver Dollar City.
16. Looked at Christmas lights!
17. Enjoyed Christmas with our families.
18. Looked at the camera on my iPhone to remember all of that :)

The Hamra's nursery is all painted!

On Saturday we helped paint the ceiling, walls and the awesome lattice pattern on the main wall. Read all about it on Kari's blog. Click here.
